ESTATE HISTORY

Château Moncontour used to belong to Tours' bishop in the Fourth century. It became lately a King’s property when Charles the Seventh, King of France, built it back in the fifteenth century for his mistress: Agnès Sorel.
It burnt during the 1789 French revolution. Later on, the famous writer "Honoré de Balzac", a Moncontour's lover, tred to acquire it with a mistress and future wife "The Stranger" Miss Hanska.
He did not succeed, but thanks to his famous Novel « La Femme de Trente Ans » (A Woman of 30), Château Moncontour will stay Forever.
Since 1994, with the same passion as their predecessors, the Feray Family never stopped to revamp the vineyard and to improve the winemaking cellar to make Moncontour vineyard one of the most beautiful and renowned of the Loire Valley.

TERROIR

Located in the Heart of the Vouvray « Appellation », Château Moncontour stands proudly and oversees the Loire River.
Surface: 98 Hectares (242 Acres)
Soil: Calcareous, clay-like and siliceous

VITICULTURE

A specific work will be performed in each part (pruning, soil work, leaves stripping) depending on the type of wine (sparkling, dry or sweet) that will get the best of the soil characteristics. We follow the principles of "agriculture raisonnée" that aims at reducing to a minimum the use of chemicals and better protect the environment.

WINEMAKING
Slow pressing at low pressure
Must selection during pressing phase
Fermentation in tanks with temperature control (17°-18° Celcius) during one month.

TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS

Pale yellow with green tints. Fresh nose with white flowers, green apple aromas and honeyed notes. Crisp, clean and fresh, this wine has a good body and a long finish with a beautiful aftertaste.

Perfect with seafood, grilled fish and BBQ, Asian and Oriental dishes.
