Region: Northern Rhône

ESTATE HISTORY

The Domaine Lombard estate was founded in 1981 by Jean-Marie and Sylvette Lombard, who contributed to the revival of the Brezème appellation after it was decimated by the phylloxera outbreak, falling from 250 acres to just a few acres in the 1930s.
In 2012, theyretired and a new dynamic team led by Emmanuelle and Julien Montagnon took over the estate. With passion, commitment, and courage they replanted part of the vineyards, secured more land and finally built a brand new winery. They currently own 5 acres of Syrah and Viognier on the Vin de Pays de Drôme appellation and 18 acres of Syrah, Roussanne and Marsanne in Brézème.

TERROIR

Brezème takes its name from “braise” which means ember in French as a reference to the warm, steep, south-facing slopes of the appellation.
Cool nights and warm days give wines with great minerality and freshness, typical of the northern Rhône climate.
The soil is made up of layers of limestone, pebble stones from the Rhône River and calcareous marl from the Drôme River.
La Tour du Diable plot is perched at the top of the steepest slope of Brézème, facing due south.

VITICULTURE

Organic and biodynamic agricultural practices. AB certification.

WINEMAKING

Manual harvest. Fermentation with indigenous yeast in a pyramidal concrete vat for 6 weeks without plunging.
Aged for 16 months in 100% wood barrels (new ones and up to 3 years).
Bottled filtered.

TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS

The nose is fine and precise, full of nuances. On ripe fruit and a noble wood.
The mouth is supple, with a fine texture, the tannins are fine and elegant. The structure is harmonious and deep, with a lingering aromatic finish.
It would give complexes to much more expensive wines.
This wine deserves to be enhanced by the best of French gastronomy.
Fillet of beef rossini, Iberian pork pluma, fillet of ostrich and sweetbreads, will perfectly accompany this wine.
