ESTATE HISTORY

The origins of the noble house of Gassies in Médoc date back to medieval times. Its lords had the rank of knights and paid feudal homage to the supporters of the Château de Margaux.
Monsieur de Rauzan acquired the seigneury in 1661 and made the reputation of the cru which now bears his name. The estate split up in 1785, giving birth to the “Rauzan-Gassies” cru, a true reflection of its historical roots.
Second Grand Cru Classé, Château Rauzan-Gassies has belonged since 1946 to the Quié family, which also owns Châteaux Croizet-Bages (Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac) and Bel Orme Tronquoy de Lalande.
The post-war period proved to be a period of renewal of the vineyard, a task undertaken by Paul Quié, and finalized by his son Jean-Michel, who took over the management of the château in 1968.
Jean-Michel Quié is now assisted by his children Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe, who work in his company on the three family castles.
