Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Clos Prieur

2017

100% Pinot Noir

Region: Cote de Nuits, Bourgogne

The Leclerc family entered the agricultural world in 1897 when a forest ranger by the name of Louis Joseph Leclerc, grandfather of René, decided to acquire plots of vines in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. His son Roger Leclerc continued in his footsteps, he invested more in his domain which enabled him to obtain great jewels of the Burgundy terroir such as those of the plots in the Combes aux moines and the Champeaux.
Domaine René Leclerc was founded in 1962 after René and his wife Aleth Bernollin decided to create their own estates by merging Domaine Roger Leclerc and Domaine René Bernollin.
Today, the future direction of this brilliant property increasingly rests with François and his two sisters, Anne and Hélène, who inherited their fathers' passion for hands-off winemaking and tireless dedication to the expression of fruity flavors of Pinot Noir.

TERROIR

The terroir of the Clos Prieur is characterized by limestone gravel, fine clay and silt descending quietly from the mountain help to develop a very beautiful soil for the vine. This ensures good maturity to the grapes, a guarantee of balance for the resulting wine.

VITICULTURE

Sustainable farming practices.

WINEMAKING

Today, the future direction of this brilliant property increasingly rests with François and his two sisters, Anne and Hélène, who inherited their fathers' passion for hands-off winemaking and tireless dedication to the expression of fruity flavors of Pinot Noir. Artificial elements are omitted as much as possible during the fermentation process. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration. However, François is not a killjoy conservative winemaker. Honing his craft in the Oregon region of the West Coast of the United States, he combines the best of new and old winemaking techniques with great admiration from the critical world; Wine guru Robert Parker praises Leclerc wines.

TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS

The robe is luminous, with soft purple nuances in its youth, bright ruby in its maturity. The nose is very elegant, leaning towards black cherry with a floral touch of wallflower, subtly liquoricey as it ages. The attack is tender, more in texture than in consistency, with a good tannic structure. The slender body and elegant tannins, such is the profile of this beautiful climate. Excellent retro-olfactory sensation on the cherry stone. It is a wine of pleasure, easy to access, an excellent introduction to Gevrey-Chambertin.

Pairs well with aged cheeses, Asian style beef with onions, barbecued beef hamburger, barbecue beef ribs, beef bourguignon.
