Stone Ranch, Alexander Valley Sonoma County

ESTATE HISTORY

Mazzocco Sonoma is nestled in the rolling hills of Sonoma County, perched on a saddle between the acclaimed valleys of Dry Creek and Alexander. In 2005, Mazzocco was brought into the Wilson family, who were eager to add the Zinfandel vines that now surround the tasting room.

Mazzocco is renowned for single-vineyard designates - robust, sumptuous Zinfandels. These wines are remarkably individual in nature - a characteristic shared by the award-winning Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

“It’s the fruit,” confesses winemaker Antoine Favero. Indeed, Mazzocco draws from some of the most breathtaking mountain vineyards in Sonoma County. It’s the fruit combined with history and tradition, seasoned with a little innovation, that makes Mazzocco one of the most distinctive and sought-after brands in California.

TERROIR

Stone Ranch, one of Mazzocco’s pioneer vineyards, is located in the Alexander Valley off Independence Lane near Highway 101. Our long-term relationship with this vineyard and the vineyard manager allows us to have input into the viticultural practices, as well as deciding when our fruit is picked. These are key elements in assuring the ongoing quality of our wines.

VITICULTURE

Certified California Sustainable Vineyard
Encouraged by trellising, conservative pruning, and individualized canopy management, the vineyards flourish under the expert eye of vineyard manager and winemaker Antoine Favero. Each vineyard and block expresses a unique character, a microclimate, and a distinctive profile of aromas and flavors.

WINEMAKING

The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented with native yeast in stainless steel tanks. The resulting wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels and bottled unfined.

TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS

Delectable Alexander Valley fruit with incredible aromatics of cherry marmalade laced with mocha, and baking spices tantalize the nose. Velvety tannins with a flavorful core of succulent chocolate raspberry and cacao woven with just the right touch of French oak and accented with habanero greet the mouth. The Stone is well-balanced with seamless flavors that flow over the palate harmoniously.
