Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County

ESTATE HISTORY

Mazzocco Sonoma is nestled in the rolling hills of Sonoma County, perched on a saddle between the acclaimed valleys of Dry Creek and Alexander. In 2005, Mazzocco was brought into the Wilson family, who were eager to add the Zinfandel vines that now surround the tasting room.

Mazzocco is renowned for single-vineyard designates - robust, sumptuous Zinfandels. These wines are remarkably individual in nature - a characteristic shared by the award-winning Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

“It’s the fruit,” confesses winemaker Antoine Favero. Indeed, Mazzocco draws from some of the most breathtaking mountain vineyards in Sonoma County. It’s the fruit combined with history and tradition, seasoned with a little innovation, that makes Mazzocco one of the most distinctive and sought-after brands in California.

TERROIR

One of the Wilson Estate Vineyards, Warm Springs Ranch is located on the western edge of the valley at 1400 to 1600 feet. This vineyard represents the extremes of the Dry Creek Valley appellation with its rugged mountainous terrain.

VITICULTURE

Certified California Sustainable Vineyard
Encouraged by trellising, conservative pruning, and individualized canopy management, the vineyards flourish under the expert eye of vineyard manager and winemaker Antoine Favero. Each vineyard and block expresses a unique character, a microclimate, and a distinctive profile of aromas and flavors.

WINEMAKING

Harvested in October 2018. All native yeast fermentation in stainless closed top fermenters with extended maceration. The resulting wine was pressed and racked into small French & American oak barrels and aged for 48 months.

TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS

Glorious black cherry, currant and leather aromatics lead to licorice and French oak flavors over a rich, extracted palate -integrating bold extracted tannin with a fruit-forward core, containing cassis with hints of chocolate truffle, and Ceylon vanilla in the finish.
