ESTATE HISTORY

Unlike the other famous properties from Bordeaux whose history is very old, the history of Château Gloria is recent and dates from the second half of the twentieth century. The property was created from scratch, rank of vines by row of vines and plot by plot. Henri Martin, at the origin of this company, did his best to acquire various parcels of classified growth very well located to compose the current Château Gloria. His name was inspired by a neighboring locality, The Gloria. Although it has been awarded prestigious terroirs, Château Gloria has never been able to obtain a revision of the 1855 classification that would have allowed it to appear there.

TERROIR

The vineyard has 44 hectares on a terroir among the best of the appellation.

VITICULTURE

With 80-year-old vines and 30-year-old vines, the average age is around 45 years old. The vineyard is remarkable and carefully maintained.

WINEMAKING

Over the years, the production equipment has undergone successive renovations and modernizations, including the construction in 2000 of a new barrel cellar. In addition, very regular and high quality qualitative assessments are carried out.

TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This estate continues to go from strength to strength. Another sleeper of the vintage, the 2011 is excellent, possibly outstanding. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by abundant aromas of cassis, forest floor, tobacco leaf and a vague hint of oak. Ripe for the vintage with excellent texture, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and a delicious, savory, broad appeal, this wine should drink well for at least a decade.

90 points Wine Enthusiast
This is an open, juicy wine with attractive fruit framed by firm but tamed tannins. The wine has a feeling of lightness, with black currant flavors that are lifted and fresh. This is a wine for medium-term aging. Drink from 2015.

90 points Wine Spectator
Mouthfilling, offering a fleshy, briary feel to the plum sauce, steeped currant and blackberry notes, with extra anise, tar and fruitcake details pumping through the finish. Lacks a little refinement in terms of structure, but this offers solid range and depth. Best from 2016 through 2024. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

90 points James Suckling
A wine with juicy blueberry and milk chocolate character. Medium to full body, with velvety tannins and a fresh finish. Round textured and satisfying.

At the tasting, Château Gloria reveals a silky entry and with an exceptional in-mouth melting. Its tannins are melted and precise and its length is impressive.

Chateau Gloria is best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised, and grilled dishes. Chateau Gloria is a perfect match with Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, salmon, mushrooms, and pasta as well as cheese.
