ESTATE HISTORY

Rivesaltes is the first appellation of natural sweet wine.

This nearly century-old old Rivesaltes 1927 from Domaine Joseph Bory is a natural sweet red wine from Roussillon. The domaine is located in Bages in the Pyrénées-Orientales and produces dry white, red wines and natural sweet red wines . It is the property of Andrée Verdeille. If you are looking for very old vintages over 80 years old, turn to the natural sweet red wines of Roussillon which offer a very long aging potential. 

WINEMAKING

Rivesaltes is fortified with neutral grape spirit during fermentation, which halts the process. The remaining wines are sweet and high in alcohol, clocking in at an average of 15.5 percent ABV. Fortification stabilizes the wine, killing yeast and any bacteria that would create off-flavors or aromas.
Then the wine is put in 5 to 10-gallon glass bottles called demi-johns and they are left outside for a year.

Rivesaltes Domaine Bory offers a great gift idea to celebrate the birthday of a family member or for a lover of old vintages. It presents a very rich palette, characteristic of very old Rivesaltes, with aromas of rancio (nuts, prunes, cocoa, spices), dried plug and dried apricot with notes of leather, blond tobacco and kirsch. On the palate, the depth, the length, and even the freshness, are astonishing for a wine of this age.
