ESTATE HISTORY
Founded in 1859 by Jean-Edouard Dupard (who added "Montrachet" to Puligny's name), Domaine Jean Chartron has been family-run for five generations. Historically based in Puligny-Montrachet, they expanded into Rully in the 1980s. Today, Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron manage the estate, focusing on organic viticulture across 14.5 hectares.
TERROIR
The Montmorin vineyard in the Rully AOC features east-southeast facing slopes of clay-limestone soil. The calcareous limestone gives 100% Chardonnay crisp acidity and mineral structure, while the clay provides weight and rich citrus flavors
VITICULTURE
Domaine Jean Chartron farms the Montmorin parcel organically without synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Vines are hand-harvested and pruned for low yields to ensure concentrated grapes. Gentle pressing precedes fermentation using native yeasts in French oak barrels, emphasizing natural balance and vineyard character.
WINEMAKING
100% Barrel fermentation (10% new oak barrels / 90% barrels aged 1 and up to 5 years. Maturing on fine lees for 8 months in barrel and 4 months in tank.
TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS
Monsieur Montmorin has put on his golden suit! The nose is explosive! There are notes of sweet pas- tries and toast, as well as candied citrus zest (kumquat and clementine). The flavour is full from the outset, then sweeps around the palate. It is a wine you consume like a large, ripe peach. It certainly won't make it down to your cellar.
