100% Petit Manseng

Region: South West

In 2002 Didier Dagueneau embarked on his journey to produce sweet wine. He sought out an area that in his opinion, was not fully realizing its potential, and landed in Babylone at the foot of the Pyrenees south of Pau.
Here, just outside of the village of Aubertin, he found a few hectares located in a natural ampitheatre facing a spectacular panorama of mountains.
The vines were in good shape and it took only minor changes in the vineyards for Dagueneau and the Petit Manseng varietal to adapt to one another.
Dagueneau's approach, and one that continues to be followed by his son at the winery, was to produce wines that bring out the natural minerality of the soil and have, above all else, balance, harmony, and longevity.

Vineyard site: 7.4 hectares
Soil: Silex (clay & flint)
Vineyard orientation: Northern
This 7.4 acres vineyard of Les Jardins de Babylone is situated on terraces in the hills near the village of Aubertin. The wines produced from these vineyards are notably famous for their special vividness.

Average age of wine: 120 years
Farming practice: Biodynamic

After the grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, the grapes are then fermented in new oak barrels (half size cask).

Lovely alternative to Sauternes.
Stunning and pure, the sweet 2014 (pure Petit Manseng) opens quietly and delivers generous liquor notes, refined and precise. It will evolve wonderfully on mango and white truffle.
Rich apricot and peach notes are in evidence here, with nuances of caramel and citrus fruits. Amazing viscosity is supported by vibrant acidity too.

This wine generally goes well with pork, vegetarian or shellfish.
