Côte Rôtie

Syrah & Viognier

Region: Northern Rhône

ESTATE HISTORY

In 2004, François Dauvergne and Jean-François Ranvier created the DAUVERGNE ET RANVIER house, a new type of business based on in-depth work in the vineyard and in winemaking. They work throughout the Rhône Valley, from Côte-Rôtie to the Luberon.

In 2013, they took over the LIRAVEL estate in Lirac and Tavel. After renewing 70% of the vineyard, they converted the estate to organic farming. Domaine LIRAVEL is a FAVORITE of the HACHETTE GUIDE 2024.

In 2016, with the Parcé family, they created an estate on the Aniane terroir from bare land: LA CHAPELLE SAINT MATHIEU. A few years later LA CHAPELLE SAINT MATHIEU is found on the most beautiful tables such as REGIS ET JACQUES MARCON or LA BOUITTE (*** Michelin).

In 2019, it was once again in Tavel that they built L'Assemblière, a place for maturing wines and receiving visitors. It is also one of the first positive energy cellars.

In less than 20 years, DAUVERGNE ET RANVIER has risen to the rank of houses recognized for the style of its wines and its methods that are both innovative and respectful of its environment.

TERROIR

The Côte Rôtie appellation covers 280 hectares and three communes located on the right bank of the Rhône: Saint-Cyr-sur-Rhône, Ampuis, and Tupin-Semons. The vineyard lies between 180 and 325 meters above sea level. The soils consist of very steep granite terraces covered with a layer of siliceous-limestone, or with a layer of clay and iron oxide. It is one of the oldest vineyards in France.

VITICULTURE

Nearly 75% of volumes are in organic farming.

WINEMAKING

Our cuvée is made primarily from Syrah. The hand-harvested grapes underwent a cold pre-fermentation maceration before being vinified in small vats. The wine was then aged partly in vats and partly in oak barrels for over a year.

TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS

91 points - Bettane & Desseauve
Ripe red fruit with a delicious character, a round and full-bodied palate, pleasant and true to its appellation.

15.5+ Jancis Robinson
Dark and spicy with notes of toasted oak on the nose. The tannins are nicely rounded, but the wood needs time to soften for the fruit to fully express itself.

We suggest enjoying this wine with duck pot-au-feu, beef tartare, or tournedos with foie gras.

Serving temperature: 18°C..
