ESTATE HISTORY
The vineyard of Château Forlouis is located in the North-Eastern part of the Village of Saint Emilion. The 12 hectares of vines are divided in two parts. One part of the vineyard is located on the plateau of clay-limestone. The other land is made of clayish soil with limestone and a gravely subsoil. The estate at Forlouis has a very elegant chateau, typical of the South-West of France. The cellars reside close to the main building.
TERROIR
12 hectares split between two plots – one of clay and limestone, the other of limestone and gravel subsoil.
VITICULTURE
The work in the vineyard is a combination of tradition and modernism. The process starts with Bordelaise pruning, then the thinning out of the leaves, and then a manual harvest. Biodiversity in the vineyard helps the vines to produce better grapes, as the vines are forced to compete to find nutrients.
WINEMAKING
The wine is then matured in oak barrels.
TASTING & FOOD PAIRINGS
Red purple colour with violet hints on the nose. Aromas of plums and red fruit jam. Candied cherry with pure characters. The palate is powerful and well balanced with a slight vanilla taste and flavors of cinnamon and prune on the finish. Supple and delicate characteristics. Enjoy with lamb, soft cheeses, and grilled or roasted red meat.
