ESTATE HISTORY

Historically the estate was part of Château Batailley until its purchase by the brothers François and Marcel Borie in 1932, and division into two properties 1942, in order to prevent inheritance difficulties. The smaller part which did not include the Batailley château became the property of François Borie who added to its vineyards with land acquisitions from Château Duhart-Milon while also running Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. Following his death in 1953, the property passed on to his daughter Françoise de Brest-Borie, while being administered by her brother and Ducru-Beaucaillou owner Jean-Eugène Borie.

In 2017, the Cazes family of Château Lynch-Bages has acquired the Château Haut-Batailley estate.

The Borie family also own Château Ducru-Beaucaillou and Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste.

TERROIR

The specificity of this Château’s terroir lies in its location. Even if the property is on the Pauillac appellation, it is at the limit of the Saint Julien appellation, which brings a certain femininity, a rare quality for a Pauillac. The vineyard area in production is 22 hectares.

VINIFICATION

The average age of the vines is 35 years old. The management of the vineyard is reasoned. Sustainable farming.

WINEMAKING

The tillage is exclusively mechanical with the plowing, the grape harvest is exclusively manual. A double sort is organized on vibrating table before and after destacking. The vatting is long during the vinification since it lasts about 3 weeks. In order to improve the quality of winemaking and preservation, an extensive investment program was carried out with the construction of a new winery and a new winery.

TASTING

Haut-Batailley is a wonderful and complete Pauillac, mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%). It is an elegant, straight wine that develops blackcurrant and cedar aromas. It can be enjoyed after aging for 7 to 20 years.
